Sarasota Opera owns and performs in the Sarasota Opera House. Originally opened as a mixed use venue in 1926 featuring vaudeville and movies, the theater is on the National Register of Historic Place. A $20 million renovation was completed in 2008. With under 1,200 seats and exceptional acoustics, Musical America recently called it "one of the finest venues for opera in America."
